County Party Endorses Goodwyn, Opposes Ballot Measures

Meeting on 9 December, the Central Committee of the Libertarian Party of Santa Clara County voted to endorse Bob Goodwyn for State Assembly, and to oppose three measures that will be appearing on the ballot in March 2024.

Goodwyn, a resident of Sunnyvale who is running in the 26th Assembly District, has run several times previously for public office, most recently in 2020 for Congress. He is also currently serving as Activities Chair for the LP SCC.

This brings to three the number of candidates endorsed by the LP SCC who will be appearing on the March ballot in Santa Clara County. Two candidates were endorsed at earlier meetings: Gail Lightfoot for US Senate and Joe Dehn for US House (District 17). All three have completed the requirements to appear on the primary ballot.

The Central Committee also voted to oppose Proposition 1, which will be appearing on the ballot statewide and would authorized billions of dollars in bonds supposedly to help address homelessness among people suffering behavioral health issues, and Measures A and B. which would change the Santa Clara city charter to make the City Clerk and Chief of Police, respectively, appointed rather than elected offices. The LP SCC had already taken a position against the measure to authorize bonds for the Sunnvvale School District (Measure C).
